Tips for maximising your loft
- Written by: admin
Spring is usually a time when homeowners try to renovate and sometimes remodel their houses. However, one of the major constraints to home improvement projects and renovations is where to start.
Studies have discovered that one of the largely under-utilised and overlooked spaces in the home is the loft. Therefore, we would like to start this year’s home improvement from the loft.
Why the loft?
Many homeowners feel their homes are becoming increasingly overcrowded, packed with things that seem too precious to get rid of. In most cases, these stuffs are not used very often, ranging from suitcases, to Christmas decorations and nostalgia.
A move to board out the loft space is usually ignored by many homeowners, especially as many of them see it as being reasonable. Below are some tips on how to maximise your loft and get the best from the space.
Creativity with Curtains
Curtains are excellent for spaces that are majorly one room. Therefore, you could hang curtains for dividing the loft into different spaces, giving the illusions of rooms while establishing some level of privacy.
For a touch o f luxury to the new rooms, you could use draped fabric. If you have large windows, curtains will not only help to segment the loft, but will also darken the room and save you some money on energy costs.
Be Organised
Organisation is of utmost importance in a space where every meter counts. While cluttering stuff in a space chokes the room, organising them, using shelves and hooks helps to free up the space, creating a better environment.
Be sure to use your walls by investing in shelves and hooks especially for displaying kitchenware. You can also purchase some containers for storing dry goods and tools. In addition to organising the limited space using containers and shelves, you could also work your furniture by ending tables with drawers, TV stands with cabinet space and under-the-bed storage.
Be attentive to colour
There is a general rule that darker colours shrink a room. Therefore, a way to make the room look larger and more spacious will be to use lighter colours on the walls and floors. This also helps to add more light to the room.
You might also consider hanging some mirrors on the wall, as this helps to bounce light around the room, making it look larger.
Think Vertically
Thinking vertically means making use of lower space with trunks, floor pillows and Ottomans, while using barstools, tall lamps, bookshelves and oversized wall art. Basically, you mix up the heights of the decor to make the room look more spacious and taller.
Lighting is Critical
Lighting is an excellent tool to manipulate a space. Bathing the room with light helps to open it up, without having to put in too much effort.
You could also add some unique fixtures to bring in some style, while strategically placing them in specific areas to highlight them and minimise other parts of the room. Try to keep lighting at different heights to make the look even lovelier.
